I've hand-sawn this sterling silver cicada around an ancient orthoceras fossil and given him black onyx eyes, so you can wear him as a brooch or a pendant.
See photos for how he's worn each way.
The wings are loosely sketched onto the silver; carefully sawn out with a jewelers saw, filed and sanded. The legs are fabricated from bits of 925 silver that is brought to an almost molten state and carefully formed before assembling the piece.
This brooch is approximately 2.5 inches long.
Entirely hand fabricated of Sterling silver, by One Artist, Suze Feledy-Jones.
* If you wish to add a chain, you will get a sturdy 3mm, sterling silver, chain, with lobster clasp.
*What is orthoceras fossil?
The fossils commonly known as orthoceras, which were ancient mollusk that lived during the Upper Devonian period 400 million years ago. They lived inside of their shell, had tentacles they could use to grab food and used jet propulsion, squirting water to move through the ocean. The name means 'straight horn', referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The fossilized shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid.

Some metals develop a natural patina over time. Many people love that look, but if you prefer the original shine, a soft jewelry polishing cloth will quickly restore the luster of your metal and the sparkle of your gemstones.
